Edge of the world rafting
The Bridge Blog
Our family enjoyed a week-long vacation in Banner Elk, North Carolina just a six hour drive from the Hampton Roads, Virginia area. We love to escape the Virginia heat every summer and visit the mountains.
The Banner Elk area sits at around 3,700 feet where the average July temperature hovers around 75 degrees. It is breathtaking!
Banner Elk and surrounding areas are loaded with outdoor activities from white water rafting to ziplining to hiking and biking. It’s an awesome place nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.
One of our favorite activities that our family enjoyed recently in Banner Elk was white water rafting. There are a couple different rafting companies to choose from. I’m going to share with you why Edge of the World is simply the best!

This downtown Banner Elk outfitter specializes in white-water rafting, kayaking, rock climbing and rappelling. The family-run business encourages getting outdoors as a family unit.
White-water rafting trips are popular group excursions as groups board buses in Banner Elk and head to Elizabethton, Tenn., about 45 minutes away. Rafting takes place on the Watauga River with the trip downriver lasting about three-and-a-half to four hours, including lunch. The outfitter serves tasty lunches of fried chicken with all the fixings, including homemade trail mix. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are also available.
