Longest driveway in the world
We are currently back at Timber Creek, NT as I update this blog just now. All is well! We are slowly making our way back East as we continue our journey.
We have been out of internet range for the past week and a bit, hence no updates being made. To bring you up to speed... read on!
Well, Jess and I were up on our last morning in Broome and headed into town for our “special activity’. It had been a dream of Jess’s to ride a camel on the beach at Broome since we first discussed the trip in the interim stages a couple of years ago. As the rides do not take place on Sundays, the only choice we had was to do it this morning, the day we were to leave to head back to Fitzroy Crossing.
Cliff remained behind with Pete to pack the van as we needed to be out by 10am and as Jess didn’t want to ride on her own, I went with her. It was a 35km plus drive in, so we left quite early as the rides started at 8am. The rides were on Cable Beach, Broome, and as we were waiting, a familiar face came up the beach. It was Peter! We
Inside Aston Martin’s first MANSION worth $7.7m outside of NYC breathtaking views, pools, and world’s longest driveway
LUXURY car manufacturer Aston Martin designed a mansion in a rural area outside New York City with the world’s longest driveway and a cutting-edge design—and it comes with a hefty price tag.
On the market for $7.7 million, the private residential estate, named Sylvan Rock, occupies 55 acres of wooded land and boasts a 2,000-foot-long driveway.

The driveway winds through rock formations that Sylvan Rock is named after.
“When designing, we always let the land speak first and respond to it," said Christopher Dierig, a registered architect and partner of S3 Architecture, which created the mansion along with Aston Martin Design.
"The roofline mimics the jagged edges of the rock ledge reaching down into the earth, as if the home is born of and launching from the landscape. The resulting design blends our modernist aesthetic with the privacy and context of the rural location to create a unique luxury experience."

California resident, Bonnie Orcutt, saw a patch of land that was once covered in yucca and creosote bushes and watched as it turned into a 4-mile-long driveway, as reported by Car and Driver.
Her home was located in the high Mojave Desert which is 135 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
The path to her home was clear except for the carefully paved road with tar and crushed stone that was over 4 miles long.
Although the driveway was technically government property, she was the only resident living on it during the time.
The road attracted a bunch of car magazines who came to Orcutt's driveway to test drive cars at crazy speeds.
During the late 1970s and mid-80s, several cars were test-driven on the land.
Michael Lofy, senior transportation surveyor, said although many tried to buy the driveway, Orcutt had different plans.

A search in Google for the world's longest driveway turns up the Jebel Hafeet Mountain Road in the United Arab Emirates.
Stretching for 7.3 miles and climbing nearly 4,000 feet it is no doubt a long mountain road, but is it a driveway?
Possibly Not!
The road itself ends in a car park and passes a luxury hotel (the Mercure Grand Jebel Hafeet Al Ain Hotel), a radar station and the Palace of Jebel Hefeet (belonging to the country's rulers) along the way.
Can a 3 lane road that doesn't lead to a single property be classed as a driveway? It has several shorter roads (or driveways) leading off it to the above properties, but it ends in a car park.
The road is tarmac, rather than a dirt track, so perhaps when it was first constructed, the palace (nearest the summit) was the only building and therefore the epitaph of driveway was more deserving?
The Greatest Drive
Regardless of its driveway status, the road is also regarded as one of the world's greatest drives.
Featuring 21 corners, three lanes (two climbing and one descending) and an immaculate surface, it has featured in a number of films and is frequently used by car manufacturers and owners to demonstrate and test the
