Review: Cadbury World, Birmingham – everything you need to know before visiting the chocolate attraction

The complete guide to Cadbury World and top tips including how not to get confused and miss half the tour like we did

Name

Cadbury World

What is it?

Cadbury World is a family attraction based around the famous British chocolate maker Cadbury.

It is not a tour of the actual chocolate factory which doesn’t open to the public due to food regulations.

Instead, it is more of a museum or visitor centre – a trip through the history and making of chocolate and Cadbury confectionery.

Where is it?

There is only one Cadbury World and it is in Birmingham. Specifically, it is in the suburb of Bournville – the town that chocolate built – four miles south of Birmingham – in the grounds of the original Cadbury factory.

The village was founded by George Cadbury when he moved his chocolate factory there from Birmingham in 1879, with homes built to house Cadbury workers.

Some of my female ancestors worked at Cadbury including my great grandmother.

Nice guided tour through the factory (well at least part of it).

Our guide (Jesse) was very nice and funny! They give you fluent, warm chocolate for tasting and other chocolate bars for free. A little boring, it might be better for children.

Interesting tour through the factory where you learn more about making chocolate.

Free chocolate tasting. It is sad that you cannot look into the production rooms.

“There’s so much stuff to look at!” My 8-year old reviews Cadbury World plus how you can save money on your visit

A visit to Cadbury World has been on my wish list for a while. I still have fond memories of visiting on a school trip in the 90s and now I have my own chocolate-mad child, it seemed the perfect time to revisit my childhood. And what better time to visit Cadbury World than at Easter?!

I may have read all the Cadbury World reviews before deciding to visit but it goes without saying that my 8-year-old needed no persuasion - 'a chocolate factory? yes please!'. So on a sunny morning in the Easter holidays, we jumped on the train and headed off to Bournville. Here's what my daughter and I thought of our trip to Cadbury World at Easter.

A sweet welcome to Cadbury World

The first thing you notice about Cadbury World is the sweet smell of melting chocolate. You could probably do without Google Maps and literally follow your nose. It's also a lovely place to be on a nice day, with lots of green space for the kids to run off some steam (particularly if they're on a sugar rush afterwards!). We also noticed that all the lampposts and station railings
