Interactive Dark Ride
Abigail, the old lady in the queueline who explains how the ride works
Interactive dark rides usually mean putting laser guns in the hands of guests and getting them to shoot at as many things inside as possible. Not so with Gobbler Getaway, the much kinder and more friendly thankgiving themed interactive dark ride at Holiday World.
In the fictional town of Autumn Falls, the turkeys have escaped just before the Thanksgiving holiday! It's the job of Gobbler Getaway riders to round them up using turkey callers. Scores are kept as riders hit their targets, and the final turkey tallies are revealed at the end of the ride.
Sally Corp have done a wonderful job with Gobbler Getaway and in adapting their more usual laser guns into the unique turkey callers. The blacklight style scenery is bright and colourful, and there are plenty of turkey targets to aim for. Each time a turkey is hit it reacts with either a sound effect or some kind of animation.

Gobbler Getaway
This lively, custom-designed family dark ride is set in the Thanksgiving area of Holiday World. This is the location of Autumn Falls, a make-believe town where autumn colors glow all year ’round, and where, in Brigadoon-like fashion, visitors can step back in time and participate in an event that happened over two-hundred years ago when Farmer Van Snoodle’s flock of turkeys disappeared right before Thanksgiving.
Competition! Each ride vehicle is equipped with digital scoring consoles to track riders’ scores as they zap the ninety targets located throughout the ride, and turkeys pop up at the sound of the turkey callers. Gobbler Getaway is designed with appeal for all ages. A fun adventure with fast paced custom music, along with all those silly turkeys, leaves everyone from kindergartners to grandparents with smiles on their faces.
Aunt Abigail explains that everyone gets a turkey caller to help round up the missing turkeys, which are hiding everywhere: popping up in the barn, in the cornfields, the hayloft, the stable…even from the well and laundry hanging on a clothesline. Each time a target is hit, a turkey reacts with something silly to say or do a

If you’re planning a visit to Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari, make sure to put Gobbler Getaway at the top of your must-do list.
This unique interactive dark ride, set in the charming town of Autumn Falls, is one of my personal favorites in the amusement and theme park industry.
The story behind Gobbler Getaway is simple but engaging: the town’s turkeys have gone missing, and it’s up to you and your family to round them up just in time for Thanksgiving.
Armed with a “turkey caller,” riders take a seat in colorful, slow-moving vehicles, using their skills to find and “capture” the turkeys hiding around every corner. It’s a perfect mix of friendly competition and light-hearted fun that keeps guests of all ages entertained.
As a favorite among Holiday World’s attractions, Gobbler Getaway combines the excitement of a family-friendly competition with the whimsical theming that the park is known for. The ride’s atmosphere is playful and immersive, making it a hit for both kids and adults.

And so many opportunities for the whole family to spend time together!
Holiday World Attractions for All Ages
As far as amusement parks go, not all are made the same. The amusement industry isn’t always designed for everyone. Some parks are lacking when it comes to attractions that are for everyone. We’ve had previous park battles on our family vacations.
Take it from me, as a mom of 4 we’ve been to parks where the youngest of the crew has absolutely nothing to do the entire day but hang out in a stroller. Holiday World, in the town of Santa Claus, Indiana, is
not
that type of park. It’s as if the goal is to make sure that all ages enjoy the park. Together.
This combination theme park (world’s first theme park that celebrates the various holidays
and
has an enormous water park) is all about families being able to have fun spending time together.
